Ruth Hillebrand Dane is an artist with a versatile signature. Her practice today can be described as clear and functional. At the same time, there is a narrative aspect, especially in the early works. Ruth Hillebrand Dane's paintings, whose graphic concept is related to geometry and architecture, are built up from sculptural elements and ornamental structures. The deliberate use of complementary colors and intense tonal contrasts leads in the paintings to a painterly inner light radiating purely from the color.

Modernist-inspired motifs in the more recent works, in which intersections of lines determine the arrangement of coloured surfaces, put the space into a calm equilibrium even beyond the picture plane.

In the large-format, meticulously planned pencil drawings of the more recent period, the hatchings applied in layers are structured by a framework of fine, free-standing lines. These works convey the impression of floating transparency.

Ruth Hillebrand Dane's works are part of the collection of the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) at the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin.
